I bet you heard through the announcements about the Can Drive that Student Council’s leading. If not, you’ll get all caught up with this article!
Wait, what is the Can Drive?
To know what the Can Drive is, you’d have to know what the Westborough Food Pantry is. The Westborough Food Pantry is an organization which accepts donations and volunteers to give food to local families in need. This pantry works hard with dozens of people to make sure no person goes hungry in Westborough. Well, after the holidays in December, the food bank often doesn’t have enough food for the town, urgently requiring donations to restock their items. That’s where the can drive comes in! Student Council has started this drive to help the Westborough Food Pantry with just that. To help those families with hunger, each classroom is accepting donations of non-perishable foods so children and adults in the area can get through the day without feeling famished and weak. They also accept personal care items like toilet paper and toothpaste. The Can Drive will be running from 1/22 to 1/31.
How can I donate?
To donate, please bring your donations to your homeroom teacher during homeroom time, as to not interrupt and interfere with the education during classes. Homeroom teachers should have a place to store or leave donations. After the can drive, Student Council members will collect the cans for the Westborough Food Pantry.
Will there be any awards for the team that donates the most?
While there is a mild competition between each team, there won’t be any prize. This is to show and teach students that life doesn’t always give back rewards. We only gain the happiness along the way!
What if I miss the deadline?
If you miss the timeframe of the Can Drive, you don’t need to worry. You can always have a guardian accompany you to the Westborough Food Pantry and donate there! This drive in school is to encourage, motivate, and remind students that we can help the community, even outside of school as well!
