On March 15th, 2025, at a local Target, a man got arrested – and the reason behind it is ridiculous. By some luck, I was there and witnessed the man get arrested.
What even happened? Looking at actual facts from communityadvocate.com, a police officer was dispatched to our Target at 330 Turnpike Road after receiving a report of shoplifting in progress. A detective from WPD (Westborough Police Department) was at the scene, talking to staff and checking surveillance videos. They were told that a male wearing a camo hat, plaid shirt, black jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes was seen leaving the store with a cart. Thankfully, the man was caught and detained. So how’d it go down? Reportedly, the man said “I will bring it back, bring me inside, and I will return everything.” The officer asked what he would return, to which the man replied “a laptop”.
As the officer handcuffed the male, he noticed a rectangular object in his pants – which was later determined to be a Lenovo laptop computer. It was also reported that he also tried to shoplift two power chargers and also changed the price tag for a Hydro Flask. Two days later on March 17th, he pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stay away from Target. Since I was also there and saw it happen, I have my own perspective on the situation.
At the time, I was waiting for my drink at Starbucks and was talking to my sister. Facing the rest of the store, I saw a man in handcuffs surrounded by two cops. Shortly, everyone around me was whispering about the situation. I heard one of the workers call someone and tell whoever they were calling to send more officers with a raised voice. I vividly remember how he looked; he was tall and slim, had a rusty haircut and some facial hair. His plaid shirt was a bit over-sized but all his clothes were very dully colored. One of the officers behind the man was holding a dark colored duffel bag – I assume that’s where the man stuffed all the things he ‘stole’. Finally, he was escorted out by the police.
Little did he know he would never step foot into another Target again.
