What is your opinion of the huge “Alex vs. Cole” debate on the show My Life with the Walter Boys? Before we get into that, what is the show about? The show starts off with Jackie Howard, the main character, moving in with the Walters who live in a rural town in Colorado. The reason for this move is that her parents and older sister passed away in a car crash. She tries to adjust to the new house and huge family, but she has a hard time. As the show progresses, Jackie gets stuck in a love triangle with Alex and Cole, which leads to the question: should she be with Alex or Cole?
Before we get into that, let’s identify the pros and cons of each character. Starting with Alex, he actually cares about Jackie, he doesn’t play pranks as much as the other boys, and he’s smarter. Now the cons, Alex is very overprotective, he is not as romantic, and he dwells on the past too much. On the other hand, Cole supports Jackie, he is patient, and he is very understanding. Now what are his cons? He betrays Alex by kissing Jackie, he is very arrogant, and he is the source of a lot of family tension.
Now, let’s ask some people what they think. Saachi and Simran, two eighth graders, voted for Cole. Both said that Cole is better, because Alex acts babyish and never supports Jackie. He is also selfish and he only started dating Jackie because he was jealous of Jackie and Cole getting closer. He also wanted to win a popularity contest between Alex and Cole. A seventh grader said, “Alex because he treats her better, he is nice and they always say that Cole is cute and has better looks, but if you watch the show, Alex is cute and Cole is a bit ugly.” Another seventh grader said, “Alex is better, because he is actually nice and he actually helped her settle into her new home. Also he supported her and he treated her better than Cole did. He didn’t play any dirty pranks unlike Cole, and respected her space and privacy.”
Based on Saachi and Simran’s perspective, saying that Alex is childish and Cole is supportive and what the seventh grader said about Alex not getting enough attention and being nicer and cuter, both sides are strong but, at the end of the day, both characters are great!
