Sat-chan is a girl, an urban legend, who lives in a song. She appears in shows and novels, usually in the horror genre. She has many descriptions: sometimes she has one leg, sometimes no legs.
There are multiple versions of this song. The lyrics below are taken from the song that is the most like the original version:
“Satchan’s real name is Satchiko.
But because she is so small, she is nicknamed Satchan.
That’s strange.
Satchan really likes bananas, but because she is so small, she can only eat half of a banana.
Satchiko, I wonder if it’s true that Satchan is going far away.
But she is so small that she will probably forget about me.
I feel so lonely, Satchan.”
Woah, chills.
There are several different, equally scary versions of this legend. For example, there is one version during which Sat-chan hops on one leg, preying on the bullies that caused her to lose her other leg. Another version says that she was run over by a train, which caused her to lose both of her legs.
And, if anyone is unlucky enough to hear her story, she will split them apart. Like a banana.
In one version of the song, there is an extra line: “My legs are gone, won’t you give me yours?” If you sang the song with this added line, Sat-chan would come in your sleep and when you woke up, you would have no legs and also, no soul.
Now, going back to the topic of the actual song, is it real? Is the song true? Should you try summoning Sat-chan during your next sleepover with your friends?
No. Now, how do I know this?
Hiroo Sakata, the creator of the song, wrote this song for himself and his childhood crush for fun. Sat-chan was a girl that younger Hiroo Sakata was friends with that he had a crush on. She then moved away after a while, which is why there is a line in the song saying, “Is Sat-chan going away?”
And the half of the banana line? No, it’s not because Sat-chan is in half, it’s because of the composer’s own health from when he was a child. He wasn’t in the best physical health as a child, and so he could only eat half of a full banana.
Now, here’s my ultimate question: Would you want Sat-chan to exist, or cease to exist?
