This year, like every other, 8th graders had the opportunity to go to the Freedom Trail in Boston. We spent about an hour and a half in Faneuil Hall, where we got lunch and went shopping in the North and South Market. For this field trip, we asked people in 8th grade how they felt about going to Boston, and how they felt after. Overall, many kids said that they were super excited to go on this trip. We asked a handful of people, and here is what they said…
Jaques (Green Team): Before the trip Jaques was very excited because his birthday was on the same day. He said “it is also different from what a normal field trip is” and that he is happy because he can “buy whatever food he wants.” He was also curious about the tour guides because he heard they are interesting.
Siva (Green Team): Before the field trip, Siva said he was “excited to go shopping” and to “buy some food.” He was interested in learning about the tour guides and learning more about the past. He also wanted to see what the tour guides were going to do to keep them entertained.
Ahaan (Maroon Team): Ahaan was very specific and his opinion was defined as “two thumbs up.”
Ishitha (Green Team): Before the trip, Ishitha said that she “believes that this field trip is a lot better than some of the other trips.” She was also excited because they got to eat there. Ishitha was very excited to learn more about the history of Boston. She told us to once again state that she is “very excited to eat good food in Quincy Market.”
Yalini (Green Team): Before the trip, Yalini said that “it will be fun and the fact that it is in Boston makes it seem better.” The bus ride was long and she thought that the “bus ride is the best part of the trip.” She believed the experience would be good because their team would split into 3 groups with proper educated tour guides. She also likes how they are coming back in the middle of seventh period, so she misses most of the school day.
Overall, many of the 8th graders were extremely excited for this upcoming field trip as they could bring their phones, take an actual tour in Boston, and buy food at Faneuil Hall. On the field trip, many felt that this amazing experience was fun, slightly expensive, and interesting–where they learned facts about the American Revolution. The following names are the people who we interviewed before, and how their opinions changed after going on this trip…
Jacques (Green Team): Jaques said that this Boston trip was very fun, delectable, and memorable. It was a bit overpriced, considering he spent $40 on food. The tour guides were a very good experience. Jacques said that his favorite part of the trip was “Quincy Market” and “getting food.” He recommends the lobster. One fun fact that he learned is that the State House is worth $2.2 million in 24-carat gold.
Siva (Green Team): Siva liked the field trip, and extremely liked the experience with Quincy Market shopping. He bought an ice cream, and also lost five dollars.
Ahaan (Maroon Team): After the trip, Ahaan said he “liked it” and that it was “very fun.” His favorites from the trip were the tour guide and learning about the American Revolution.
Ishitha (Green Team): Her exact words were “me gusta the trip.” Her favorite thing was Quincy Market, however, it was very expensive. The actual learning part was only a mile (walking distance). She also learned about the state houses and certain special locations like the Samuel Adams Statue, and the former meeting hall–which is known as Faneuil Hall.
Yalini (Green Team): After the trip, Yalini said she “really liked it,” and her favorite part of the excursion was Quincy Market. She also really liked the tour. There was a lot of interesting information on the tour that made it engaging, and less easy for kids to zone out.
A majority of the 8th graders were not disappointed with the tour, and the overall vibe of the atmosphere in Boston was chill (and chilly!). Many of the students might even say that this was one of the best field trips we have had in a while. This excursion almost felt like a sliver of freedom, and it also gave us a glimpse into the future field trips we might get to go to as highschoolers.
